I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday stretched out on my sofa with the sunshine pouring in through the window. I live in a top-floor flat with lovely big windows and my living room is a delightful sun-trap, it's one of my favourite things about it.

But I digress. I spent the afternoon watching the Colin Firth version of Pride & Prejudice on Britbox, playing a couple of games of Hardback on BoardGameGeek and eating a big bowl of chopped up apple and strawberries. Easily a favourite way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Today is not shaping up to be quite so lovely, sadly. It is currently raining and the forecast is to get up to 65F. I'm not sure what I'm going to end up doing yet. Currently sitting at my kitchen table, sipping tea and eating toast. I'm feeling in quite the Jane Austen mood after watching Pride & Prejudice though so I might investigate what else is on streaming, or finish unpacking my DVDs and watch something. Pride & Prejudice has already been added to my to-read list for when I've finished one of the three books I'm currently reading. I usually only read two (one fiction, one non) but that's gone out of the window right now.

Other options for the day involve watching some Chronicles Of Narnia (recent movies or BBC adaptations, I'm not sure yet) or starting a new journal in the beautiful new purple notebook I recently purchased. Did I mention I love stationery?

No matter what I end up doing, I will be thoroughly enjoying a warm, lazy, Sunday

I am a great believer that it is far more positive to have targets rather than resolutions, and that you don't need to wait for a specific day (i.e. New Years) to start them. It seems that resolutions seem to be about stopping doing things which is all rather negative and dull, while targets give you something to aim for, and can be more frivolous and fun.

I am starting mine right here and now in June. I am embarking on a new stage of my life - divorced, re-discovering myself as a single 30-something person, questioning my identity and gender and sexuality and figuring everything out all over again. I have a shiny new job starting in September but right now am gainfully unemployed for the first time over the summer and determined to enjoy it!

My first goals are to learn to cook one new dish a month; be more punctual; experiment with herbal teas; and to keep a diary or blog.

So to the end of keeping a diary or blog, I have set up this. I don’t intend to impose upon myself that I must post every day (for one thing I don't know that I have that much to talk about!) but I do intend to do so regularly anyway...

So a teeny bit about me, to paint a little picture of who is sitting typing away at this keyboard. Well, I work in a library, and although I am sick sick sick of people saying in response to this ‘It must be lovely to read all day’ (Yes, it would be, but that is not my job!) I don’t just love reading, I find it essential; as I need air, food and water, I need books too - and can often be found stealing a few minutes to read when I should really be getting ready.

I like to dabble in crafts, and love to spend a quiet hour crocheting flowers or knitting with some delicious wool (although at the moment to be fair, my enthusiasm outweighs my skills! This year I vow to move on to knitting more exciting things than scarves. I have managed socks on two needles, so next for something with a little more shaping I think).

I like to play in the kitchen too, although things often bite me here- like the hot oven door, or the milk boils over... I take a great deal of pleasure in drinking a cup of tea, and tea pots, tea cosies, tea shops…one of my favourite treats is afternoon tea.
